Imagine your day ending at sunset. Life without music, motion pictures, radio. Life without light itself. Our modern lives began at the turn of the century in West Orange, New Jersey. The Laboratory and home of Thomas Edison, stopped in time, continue to teach a new generation.



 The Basics


Hours:

Glenmont is now open Friday through Sunday.
Grounds are open 12:00pm - 5:00pm
House tours are from 12:00pm - 4:00pm

Glenmont is open year round.
The Laboratory will remain closed while construction continues there.

 Directions

Approaching from the east
From the Garden State Parkway, take exit 145 onto Interstate 280 westbound. From the New Jersey Turnpike, take exit 15-W onto Interstate 280 westbound. Follow Interstate 280 westbound to exit 10. Make right at end of the exit ramp. Go to the end of the street, and make a left onto Main Street. Follow Main Street to the second light and make a left. Stop at the Gatehouse. Then proceed up the hill to Glen Avenue. Turn right on Glen Avenue then make the next left onto Honesuckle. Parking is up the road on the right.

Approaching from the west
Take Interstate 280 eastbound to exit 9. Make a left at the end of the ramp. At the second traffic light, make a left onto Main Street. Follow Main Street to the next light and make a left. Stop at the Gatehouse. Then proceed up the hill to Glen Avenue. Turn right on Glen Avenue then then make the next left onto Honesuckle. Parking is up the road on the right.


 Climate
 

Summers are generally hot and humid. Winters are generally cold with variable precipitation. We recommend layers of clothing, especially in early spring and late fall. Part of the tour is outdoors. Come prepared for inclement weather.
