Description

Get the scoop on mining, from tunnel to touch display, at the Sterling Hill Mining Museum, a facility that allows the visiting public to get an up-close look at the steps involved to take get ore up from underground to ground level. In the associated Zobel Exhibit Hall see all sorts of mining equipment like dynamite detonators and jaw crushers, admire fluorescent minerals (see the Thomas S Warren Museum of Fluorescence), gape over real gold (spot the fool's gold), peruse fossil displays and meteorites and then descend below the surface on a short tour of a stretch of Sterling Hill's zinc mine. Be sure to get your souvenir piece of fluorescing zinc ore in the colorful Rainbow Room and let kids get hands on in the Rock Discovery Center before rocking on home.
