Sand-dusted barrier island, Long Beach, sits just off the New Jersey shore, a quiet place for most of the year but ever in demand come summer sunshine.
Though visitors to New Jersey's coast might be drawn in primarily by the thought of sand and sea, there's more green to see in this area than just dune grass. Head for the Leamings Run Gardens and Colonial Farm from late Spring to early Autumn for a stroll down peaceful paths framed in fragrant blossoms and colorful buds, with hovering hummingbirds and flittering butterflies for company. In addition to 25 themed gardens, the Colonial Farm perched under shady pines offers visitors a glimpse of historic Cape May County circa the 18th century and at the end of October, visitors up for a thrill can also enjoy the Haunted Walk. More educational programs are offered during the gardens' main season.
