Jersey City, New Jersey Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Jersey City is the second largest city in the state, with a population of 240,000. It has one of the most ethnically diverse populations in the country, with large numbers of Asian, Arab, Muslim, and Latinos calling Jersey City home. A commuter city, with many of its residents working in Manhattan, Jersey City also has a large financial and real estate hub of its own. Exchange Place, its financial center, has a skyline on a smaller scale of Wall Street in Manhattan.

Jersey City has a lot to do, including recent museum and gallery openings, and numerous restaurants and bars. Liberty State Park, one of the most visited state parks in the country, is the pride of Jersey City. The park stretches along New York Harbor and features the impressive Liberty Science Center, a major draw for families.

Biking and boating are available at the park, as well as swimming, fishing and picnicking. Take the Circle Line Ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and look up your ancestral history at the American Family Immigration History Center.

Jersey City is located between Hoboken and Union City along the Hudson River. It is served by the New Jersey Turnpike, I-78, and U.S. Highways 1 and 9, as well as New Jersey Routes 139 and 440. The Holland Tunnel connects Jersey City to New York City and NJ transit is the most popular mode of transportation for getting in and out of the Manhattan.
